help me...I;m confused! :) If I am estrogen dominant and flax mimics estrogen (I think I read that somewhere), then why would I take flax and essentially be more estrogen dominant? help!

Hi Solstice,

Flax seeds contain phytoestrogens (weak estrogens) that do mimic estrogen but don't send strong estrogenic signals to the cell. Phytoestrogens occupy estrogen receptors/block strong estrogens in the body so help reduce symptoms of estrogen dominance.

Yes do the oil (1-2 caplets a day) and fresh flaxseed milled 2 tbs/day if you want for extra benefits. I find it hard to do both so when I can remember to do the milled I grind a bag full and sprinkle on my cereal and in fruit smoothies. Keep the milled in the refrigerator because the ALA fatty acids tend to break down very fast when exposed to air.
