Dawn,

Yes, I would agree you probably are perimenopausal. Short cycles are very common. Usually with shorter cycles you are not ovulating creating an estrogen dominance imbalance.

There are a couple things you need to be doing so that the estrogen imbalance isn't so bad, creating increased anxiety or emotional upheaval:

1) make sure you're getting at least 30 grams of fiber everyday, you can safely eat up to around 40-55 grams without interfering with mineral or iron balance. Switch to All Bran cereal. You can also buy a fiber tablet.

2) Eat about 1/2 to a full cup of edamame soy a day, you'll find it in your frozen vegetable foods section. This is a wonderful source of genistein an isoflavone that has can reduce the strong estrogen signaling. Edamame actually contains many weak isoflavones, genistein happens to be the strongest. Do not buy isolated genistein in a capsule, you won't receive the same benefits as from whole soy.

Now if you have any kind of allergy or sensitivity to peanuts or soy, skip the soy and stay with the fiber. The fiber helps escort excess estrogen and cholesterol out of the body in feces, plus your colon will benefit.
