Did you know...we still do not have a "Gluten-free" label law?

No -we don't, we've been waiting 4 years now for the FDA to finalize what it means for food manufactures to make that declaration. So when you see a product boasting on the front of the package "GLUTEN-FREE" it may still contain gluten. Yes, and many food supplements add wheat grass and barley to their products and still have the audacity to declare it gluten-free. There are some individuals that are highly sensitive to gluten (wheat, rye, barley and contaminated oats) SPELT is wheat by the way.

Now there's a new Watchdog in town...the Gluten-Free Watchdog that is. It's a new website that is testing Gluten-Free labeled foods to make sure they actually ARE Gluten-Free. Great idea huh.

The new website was started by Tricia Thompson MS RD, who also happens to have celiac disease. Tricia has done numerous studies on naturally gluten-free foods containing trace amounts of gluten, and has written several books on the gluten-free diet. She has decided to put those gluten-free label declarations to the test herself in order to make sure we recommend safe foods for clients and patients who MUST STAY Gluten-Free for their health.

I would encourage anyone who has Celiac disease, or is highly sensitive to gluten to subscribe to the Gluten-Free Watchdog today. I would also encourage you to become a sponsor if you can. Anyway, it's only 4.99 a month, well worth knowing which food are safe and which are not. There are also automatic e-mail noticves on new tests.
