Omega 3 fatty acids are very important in general health, they protect the heart, artery walls and are required in neuro function. They are however very short in the typical American Diet.

Omega 3's also play a function in reducing the body inflammation response (pain). Having the correct balance of Omega 3:6:9 is important.

Conversions of ALA into DHA and EPA can be affected by a diet high in saturated fats, diabetes and deficiencies in co-enzymes of certain B vitamins and several important minerals.

Omega 3's are an integral part of the Cycle Diet, you will get them from the suggested flaxseed oil, fatty fish like salmon, halibut, tuna or fish oils capsules. The conversions of ALA into DHA and EPA are hindered by several factors which are addressed in the linked article.
