I like this article describing the research done by the NIH to be released in March 2013. The age group is older but still holds for those perimenopausal. I have always believed/known there is a connection between aspartame and mood, due to how it's metabolized in the body. The article does not give the details of which artificial sweeteners are involved. The most widely used artificial sweetener being used currently in diet soda is aspartame. I have also had several clients with adverse reactions using Splenda as well so please use caution with it's use. Drinking weak tea and water is preferable.
